Happy Independence Day

The nation celebrating its 60th Independence Day today, in a befitting manner with traditional zeal and enthusiasm. The day was dawned with 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salute in the provincial capitals. Special prayers offered in mosques after Fajar prayers for the country’s prosperity and progress.

National flag hoisting ceremonies were held at federal and provincial capitals. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz hoisted the national flag at a ceremony at the Convention Centre, Islamabad. The change of guards’ ceremony was held at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi on Independence Day morning.

All government, semi-government and private buildings, roads, shops as well as houses have been colourfully decorated with buntings and flags. Various programmes, including rallies, processions and the colourful functions under the aegis of various social and political organisations being held in all the cities of the country.
